My Obituary?

I'm behind in posting the daily verses, I'll catch up. Here's a silly little generated obit. It made me laugh.

Day 10

I've had Lily Allen's song Alfie stuck in my head all day. Which is ok with me. However, this is my observation on the subject of earworms.

smooth vocals soothe us
clever lyrics amuse us
I curse the earworm

Day 9

My one cat has been fur mowing. I have been remiss in not taking care of it.

feline companion
is that Allopecia?
neurotic licker

Day 8

Too much time being spent as the designated driver. I was hoping to work on a villanelle this weekend. Alas, it was not in the cards. So, more observation on what's been going on in my life.

smoke filled bar room
sticky floors, greasy food, drunks
nostalgic for home

Day 7

I found a romance novel today that made me wince. Story and cover made me wince.

What ho? This one, he cries
from his chiseled and masculine guise.
Now the size of his junk
like the novel, it's bunk
Just filler, cliches, and lies

Good God - I'm a scary cat woman!

And after I promised my friend Matt that I wouldn't turn into one too. The shame. The shame...

Day 6

Busy day - John finished his classroom training today, so I was kind and patient driver for his class while they celebrated - so this one is a quick couplet. I cheated

kitties sleep and twitch on the couch
I rub their bellies the wrong way - ouch!

Day 5

Trying to be less trenchant, and now I'm over to the frivolous. Oh well. I'm sure the kitties appreciate the attention, no matter what form it takes.

Finding the warm spot
in the living room is nice.

Seeking out a nesting
spot, I ask the cat's advice

Kitty stretches and miaows
a cuddle to entice

So off to bed with puss and book
Today that will suffice

Day 4

Urrgh. I can't believe I'm sharing this with the world. An attempt late at night to write a Petrarchan sonnet. My ideas kept drifting away, like dandelion fluff, when I really wanted them to drift like a snowbank. That image stuck with me, but I wasn't able to do anything with it that didn't make me feel like I was channeling my inner 7th grader.

Random thoughts begin to drift
like driven snow, not ships at sea;
dense, compact, laden with debris.
Now it is time to sort and sift,
let practice go, clean habit out, begin to lift
significant from frivolity
Knowing there is no renascent guarantee,
For from certain habits I will not shift.

Strive and struggle to make a change,
Internal bargaining, a give and take.
Discipline and order from the arbitrary

So today I find time to rearrange,
See the contradictions of the individual flake
Adjust lifes patterns and accept the contrary

Day 3

Sad news today. Cheated and wrote a haiku.

extravagant indulgence
once foe, now my friend

Day 2

Yes, these will no doubt be topical. Big surprise? I thought not. This one if for the kerfluffle over the book The Higher Power of Lucky.

Lucky & Newberry are under attack
Anxious adults are starting to quack
“We must be strong,
Because it is wrong
To use the correct word for a nutsack”

Day 1

Any person that lives with critters knows what I mean by this

tentative touch with orange hair
gently skulking through the house
bump, thump, patter - he isn't there
perhaps now pursuing a mouse
anxious yet placid, demanding a place
be made for majestic repose
and yet I ask his furry face
must it always be on my clean clothes?

The Year of the Pig

Happy New Year! For the Year of the Pig, I am attempting to write some form of verse each day. I expect to cheat by slamming out haiku when I'm short on time. The goal is regain some of the creativity that grad school has crushed from my soul. Some of this verse will be painfully horrid. The goal is write, and by practicing, eventually write better. I'm not sure that I will ever write well.

Happy Year of the Golden Pig, and may we all find prosperity and happiness.
