Unfortunate Typo Of The Day (UTOTD)

TCM is showing Love Story right now. I popped on over to TCM's web page to look at some of their information on it. Some person put in the comments "I balled like a baby".

Um. Yeah. That word does not mean what you think it means. I'm not even going to go there.

I have to wonder, why did Ali McGraw get an Oscar nomination? She's not that great of an actress. Just wondering...

Balled like a baby... hehehehe.

Also:

I've never been able to see the work, "Oscar" and not think "The Grouch"

Ever.

My wife's been watching the Chinese equivalents of Love Story for the past 3 weeks - she suddenly discovered a website with an actress she remembers from the 1970s.

Same lame acting, same lame stories. The 1970s were ... unique.

From the movie What's Up, Doc?

Barbara Streisand, batting her eyelashes: "Love means never having to say you're sorry."

Dramatic pause.

Ryan O'Neal, deadpan: "That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard."

Or, as John Lenon once noted: "Love means having to say you're sorry every fifteen minutes."

Or as I told a newlywed about two weeks ago (paraphrasing a Heinleinism) - "The secret to a long marriage is admitting you're wrong when you're not. Especially when you're not. And don't dwell on it, just move on."

The movie won an Oscar? Heck, I stopped putting much value in the Oscars in 1983. That's when Bladerunner lost for costume design to Gandhi, and for SFX to, believe it or not, E.T..

That being said, Love Story is a better movie than another TCM showing from earlier today. That'd be Poltergeist. That was a damned stupid movie even the first time I saw it. The stupidest scene? If the tree right by the window to your kid's bedroom had tried to grab said kid in its branches and the tree wasn't an Ent, and even though the tree was sucked away to Hell before completing its deed, would you send your kid to sleep back in his bedroom?

Serge, luckily it only won for music. But Ali McGraw was nominated? And the story? I'm a sap, I'll totally admit to being a sap. But that movie... ick.

Heck, Jeff Bridges was nominated for Starman, so it's entirely conceivable that McGraw was. Meanwhile, people like Cary Grant never won.
